Acronym: MPEG-1 Layer 1 Audio File

Audio file formatted using MPEG Layer 1 compression; commonly uses a data rate of 384 kbps, but supports bitrates between 32 and 448 kbps; also supports sampling rates of 32, 44.1, and 48 kHz.

MP1 files were used by Philips DCC Digital Compact cassettes. The format has been replaced by the newer .MP2 and .MP3 formats.
